Course of Italian language

Italian language belongs to Romance group of Indo-European languages. It is developed from Vulgar Latin after Fall of the Roman Empire. Historical figures of the Renaissance era had a great influence on formation of Italian. In its turn, language of Dante and Boccaccio had impact on French, English, German, Spanish and other languages of Western Europe. All these languages include several hundreds of words of Italian origin, primarily related to culture achievements (art, literature, music).

In alternative to Spanish and English, Italian language is not such spread throughout the world, but it has not less admirers. Today Italian is the state language of Italy, San Marino, and one of four state languages of Switzerland. Italian is commonly used, at least, understood in the whole Mediterranean area. Italian immigrants brought their language to France, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, South and North America. Therefore, approximately 60 mln.people have command of Italian. Italian takes 7 position in Internet in relation to prevalence.

Characteristic feature of Italian is abundance of vowels. Moreover, there is almost no Italian words, that end with consonant sound. That is why Italian is so melodious, that is why it is the language of love and songs.

Course of Italian from Online Language Studio includes 5 international levels. General course is oriented on development of all main skills: oral and written speech, reading and listening. Development of vocabulary and learning of grammar are also parts of the course. Communicative methodology is used in learning of Italian. Students learn to communicate in Italian during classes.

Levels of course program:

Principianti (It 1)

Principianti – beginner level. Attendees learn the first communicative phrases on the following topics: greetings, introducing, time, communication with Italian speakers, first holiday cards. Addressed grammar structures: conjugation of main verbs (modal verbs, verbs of movement, "to be", "to have") in the present tense, singular and plural forms of nouns, articles, and simple past and future tenses.

Elementare (It 2)

This level has a wider subject range: theater, TV, guests, bar, education system, political and economic system of Italy. Addressed grammar structures are more complicated: conditional mood is learnt.

Pre-Intermedio (It 3)

This level is oriented on development of basic skills of fluent speech. Subjects: communications with authorities, doctors, shopping, environmental issues, traditions and holidays of Italy.

Intermedio (It 4)

This level is oriented on learning of all main lexical and grammatical structures of Italian.

Avanzato (It 5) and Avanzato II (It 6)

Coursebook Viaggio nell'Italiano is used at this level for reinforcement of achieved skills. Main attention is dedicated for discussion of various aspects of modern Italy. Attendees have no problems with comprehension of Italian, they are able to speak fluently and read original literature and press.
